The role of IT in prisoner education

Studies have consistently found that prisoners who undertake education while in prison are less likely to reoffend, and return to prison. However, in an environment where post-secondary education is increasingly being offered via online delivery, prisoners with no access to the internet are experiencing barriers to education offered by non-prison providers. This study examines the Australian prison environment, the education needs of prisoners, and their current access to education, information technology and the internet. Recent and future Australian and international developments in delivering online education to prisoners are examined.

Modern Information Technologies in the Professional Education of Future Primary School Teachers

The article examines the problem of using information technologies in the educational and professional training of future primary school teachers. The authors found that the integration of digital resources into the educational process can effectively solve didactic tasks. It provides opportunities for virtual travel and improves the accessibility and efficiency of education. The application of information technologies contributes to enhancing the educational process. They prepare future teachers to function within the information society and promote the development of critical thinking and creativity among students. The new approach puts the teacher at the center of the educational process. This approach takes into account the professional competencies and personal interests of educators to promote the improvement of methodological, organizational, and technological support for personalized learning. The paper investigated the possibilities of using information technologies in the educational process to train future primary school teachers. The methodology included a systematic approach and general theoretical scientific methods. They include analysis, synthesis, and systematization of the research material on the role of digital technologies in the training of future primary school teachers. The research methodology employed two indicators to assess the psychological and emotional qualities of students, namely: assessment of communication skills; analysis of cultural and value orientations. The research results showed a high level of discomfort related to the current educational system. Nearly half of the respondents experience psychological and emotional stress due to the existing teaching format. In addition, as a result of the program implementation, it was found that the configuration model of student-centered learning applied to distance learning had a significant impact on students. The statistical analysis of the chi-square indices of overall conformity (χ2 = 0.36....1) indicates a high conformity of the data set. 

Technology in education through mobile learning application (MLA) and its impact on learning outcomes: Literature review

Integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in teacher education is a means to support the teaching and learning process. Good teaching by utilizing technology certainly requires changes, especially in the realm of pedagogy, but teachers apparently do not have enough ability to optimize ICT in the learning process. In fact, ICT has the potential to provide various benefits for teachers and students, including joint learning areas, cooperative and collaborative learning opportunities. Therefore, this research aims to identify the use of mobile learning application (MLA) and its impact as a form of ICT integration in learning. The method used is literature study, by taking data from various relevant scientific articles and books. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis from the results of the synthesis of several literature reviews obtained. The research results show that a number of 10 main articles and 15 relevant supporting articles as well as several book sources show that mobile-based learning with smartphone devices is becoming a trend at various levels of education, both academic and vocational.

Relationship between Effectiveness of Flipped Classroom, Blended Learning and Task-oriented Teaching Methods on Academic Achievement among Vocational College Students in an OBE IT system environment

This research explores the effectiveness of flipped classrooms, blended learning, and task-oriented teaching methods within an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework in vocational IT education. The study aims to determine how these innovative teaching methodologies enhance learning outcomes, improve student engagement, and better prepare students for industry demands. By integrating digital platforms with traditional classroom instruction, the flipped classroom model enables pre-class preparation through online materials, allowing for more interactive and application-focused sessions in class. Blended learning supports this by providing a mix of online and face-to-face interactions, offering flexibility and catering to diverse learning preferences. Task-oriented teaching aligns educational activities with real-world tasks, enhancing practical skills crucial for the IT sector. Comparative analysis with traditional educational practices shows that these modern methods significantly increase student participation and knowledge retention, promoting deeper understanding and greater application of IT skills. The study suggests that integrating these methods within an OBE framework not only meets educational objectives more effectively but also aligns with industry requirements, thus enhancing vocational education's responsiveness to labor market needs. Future research is recommended to explore long-term impacts, cross-disciplinary applications, and the integration of emerging technologies. This study serves as a foundation for policymakers and educators aiming to revamp curricular designs and teaching strategies in vocational education to improve educational outcomes and job readiness.

Understanding IT in Healthcare: Relevance and Training Needs of IT in Private Medical Practice.

The integration of Information Technology (IT) into private medical practice is crucial in modern healthcare. Physicians managing office-related IT without proper knowledge risk operational inefficiencies and security. This study determines the relevance of specific IT topics in medical practice and identifies the training needs of physicians for enhancing IT competencies in healthcare. In March 2023 a cross-sectional online survey was conducted with physicians comprising nine IT-related topics in Tyrol, Austria. The survey results highlighted a strong perceived relevance and high demand for IT education among physicians working in their medical practice, especially in areas of core medical IT and security. The majority of responses indicated high relevance (76.7%) and high demand (69.7%) for IT topics in medical practice. The findings underscore a significant need for targeted IT training and support in medical practices, particularly in areas related to the medical practice and security. Addressing these needs could lead to improved healthcare delivery and better management of technological resources in the healthcare sector.

Evaluation and Improvement Strategies of Teachers’ Information Technology Teaching Ability Based on Data Mining

The rapid evolution of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, big data analytics, and next-generation artificial intelligence has propelled education through the ranks to new heights. To promote the development of digital education in an all-round way and build a learning country under the strategic action of digital education in China, it is necessary to objectively and accurately evaluate the information-based teaching ability of college teachers. This paper takes the evaluation of teachers’ information-based teaching ability and the construction of promotion strategies as the research object, introduces the composition of teachers’ information-based teaching ability in detail, designs the evaluation index system of teachers’ information-based teaching ability from the perspective of educational digital strategic action, and constructs the promotion strategies of teachers’ information-based teaching ability based on the case study of teaching ability evaluation. The constructed evaluation index of teachers’ informatization teaching ability has strong maneuverability and the evaluation results are objective and accurate, which can be used as an evaluation model in the construction of teachers’ informatization teaching ability in colleges and universities and provide practical guidance for improving teachers’ informatization teaching ability in colleges and universities.

Evaluation of Industrial Field Practice Program using the Tyler Model in the Informatics Engineering Education Department

This research aims to describe the evaluation implementation of industrial field practices in the informatics engineering education study program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Putra Indonesia "YPTK" Padang. This research used an evaluation method with the Tyler Evaluation Model (Goal Oriented Model). Based on this method, data was collected through the following steps: 1). Identify the objectives of industrial field practice; 2) formulate indicators for the achievement goals that have been set; 3) formulate the data obtained with indicators. The main objective is divided into sub-component objectives, namely: sub-component of program objectives, sub-component of attitudes, and sub-component of achieving program objectives. All indicators included in the sub-components were analyzed using the mixed method technique (quantitative and qualitative) and obtained an average score of 84.4 %. It means that the implementation of industrial field practice in the informatics engineering education study program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Putra Indonesia "YPTK" Padang, is in a good category. The impact of the implementation of industrial field practices can run smoothly in accordance with the program objectives.

Utilizing Computer and Technological Devices to Improve the Performance of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Students: A Case Study of Secondary Schools in Al-Hasaheisa Locality, Gezira State, Sudan

Purpose: This study aims to examine the impact of technology integration in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classes on learners' motivation and performance. It also seeks to provide training for EFL teachers to effectively incorporate technology into their instructional practices.
 Methodology: The research utilizes experimental and descriptive-analytical methods, involving 75 participants, including EFL students and teachers from secondary schools in Al-Hasaheisa Locality, Gezira State, Sudan. Data collection involves questionnaires and pre-post-tests administered to both teachers and students. The collected data is analyzed using the SPSS program.
 Findings: The study reveals that the use of technology in EFL classes facilitates English language teaching and learning. Despite the high internet costs in Sudan, EFL students actively engage in online collaboration activities. However, it is highlighted that nearly half of the EFL teachers lack sufficient training to effectively utilize the available computers and technological devices. The study emphasizes that EFL students display motivation to learn through computer usage, both inside and outside the classroom. Additionally, technology enables EFL learners to engage in computer-based assignments, practice problem-solving and critical thinking through e-activities, and improve their overall performance. Furthermore, utilizing technology allows teachers to provide a broader range of materials and information.
 Unique Contributions to Theory, Policy and Practice: The study recommends the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in the EFL teaching and learning process. It emphasizes the need for comprehensive training programs to enhance EFL teachers' proficiency in effectively employing technology in their instructional practices.

Use of ICT to implement an active learning strategy in soil mechanics courses at undergraduate level

Nowadays engineers are constantly dealing with more complex problems, uncertainty, incomplete data, and demands of customers, governments, environmentalists, and public. This requires technical skills as well as skills in human relations. So, during their academic background it is necessary to incorporate more skills, social and technological, into their base knowledge. This can be accomplished introducing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Higher Education (HE). Several studies show that the use of ICT in teaching promotes participation, engagement, collaboration, and student interaction, making them more active participants and responsible for their learning. In addition to these advantages, ICT allow to give equal importance to learning processes and to the contents, as the activities offered by ICT allow to the students develop communication skills, teamwork, finding and evaluating information, access, and manipulation of large amounts of data, work with other technologies, update and refine existing skills and knowledge. It was in this context that Guided Exercises emerged. A Guided Exercise permits students to relate models and help them to solve a complex exercise step by step. This strategy was used in two consecutive courses of an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Soil Mechanics I and Soil Mechanics II at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. The results show that students considered the strategy useful for the understanding of the concepts covered in the course. Analysing the students’ academic performance, it can be concluded that those who used this methodology had a better approval ratio. This paper presents data to support these statements.

ICT’s Impact on Teaching Information Technologies in Albanian Secondary Schools Through an Empirical Study

This study presents an empirical investigation into the effects of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) integration in the pedagogical approaches adopted by secondary school teachers in Albania, specifically focusing on the teaching of information technologies. Through a meticulously designed assessment, data was collected and analyzed to ascertain the impact of ICT utilization on teaching methodologies. The research involved a cohort of secondary school teachers actively engaging with ICT tools and platforms to deliver information technologies education. Findings revealed noteworthy enhancements in instructional delivery, resource accessibility, and interactive learning experiences resulting from ICT integration. Furthermore, the study identified challenges and areas requiring further attention to optimize ICT's potential in fostering enriched learning environments. The outcomes of this research provide valuable insights and implications for teachers, policymakers, and stakeholders seeking to advance educational practices by leveraging ICT tools in teaching information technologies at the secondary level in Albania.

Students' Perceptions of Engaging Learning: Preparation for Engaging Learning Strategies

The existence of saturation and limited learning resources are two phenomena seen in learning so far. Interesting learning is that students participate actively, concentrate and enjoy learning. This study aims to determine students' perceptions of interesting learning. The results of this study will be used as the basis for further research. This study applies a survey research method, with a quantitative descriptive approach. This research involved 193 students of the Information Technology Education Department. The data obtained were analyzed quantitatively using percentages This analysis uses indicators derived from front-end analysis from Lee Owen, namely: ) Audience analysis shows that students prefer learning with a visual style, 2) Technology analysis shows that learning using LMS gets the highest proportion and prefers using videos. 3) Critical incident analysis,  that combines online and offline learning which is very enjoyable, understanding using structured learning. 4) Media analysis show that all have their own cell phone (100%), have high internet access (95%) and have easy access to the internet around 88%. Thus it means that students want learning to be carried out by combining online and offline learning, learning using visual styles, structured learning.

The article proves the importance of using modern information technologies in the training of pedagogical and management staff in the sphere of education. The meaning of information technologies in the process of forming the head’s of the educational institution information culture is defined. The analysis of the peculiarities of its formation is given. New applications of information technologies adapted to work in educational institutions and the possibility of their successful implementation are presented. The article suggests that information processes are aimed at forming a unique open educational environment, ensuring its accessibility, providing opportunities for updating, developing and improving the quality and efficiency of educational services. The use of the information technology approach is based on the LLL (lifelong learning) paradigm that implies the concept of continuous education, its internationalization and diversification. The efficiency of the educational process in the training of teachers and heads of educational institutions depends on the high-quality content of electronic educational resources. Electronic resources are components of the educational process and important parts of the information and educational environment. The most important directions of its development are content, technical support and maintenance of information sites, monitoring the level of information and professional competence of pedagogical workers, providing informational assistance to teachers in creating individual sites, improving their computer and technical literacy. The use of new models, information and communication technologies in educational institutions makes possible to create a unique information environment where educational regulatory documents, educational and methodical materials, monographs, tutorials are placed, which altogether can help pedagogical workers to improve the educational process and increase the level of pedagogical skills. The use of educational information and communication technologies in terms of innovative models implies the use of electronic lecturers, simulators, textbooks, encyclopedias; development of situational role-playing and intellectual games using artificial intelligence; modeling of different processes and phenomena; distance learning; conducting interactive educational teleconferences; construction of systems of control and verification of students' knowledge and skills (use of control test programs); creation and maintenance of educational institutions websites; creating presentations; carrying out design and research activities.

REVIEW OF WORKFORCE UPSKILLING INITIATIVES FOR EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES IN IT

This study provides a comprehensive analysis of workforce upskilling initiatives for emerging technologies in the Information Technology (IT) sector, with the primary objective of identifying effective strategies to prepare professionals for the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Employing a systematic literature review and content analysis, the research scrutinizes various upskilling programs, focusing on their design, implementation, and outcomes. Data sources include peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, selected based on criteria that ensure relevance and timeliness to the current IT context. Key findings reveal the critical need for anticipating technological trends to align workforce capabilities with future demands, highlighting the significance of personalized and experiential learning pathways. The study emphasizes the strategic role of upskilling in bridging the digital divide, advocating for inclusive and accessible learning opportunities to cultivate a diverse and globally competitive workforce. Recommendations for stakeholders center around adopting flexible learning models, fostering industry-academia partnerships, and emphasizing the development of both technical and soft skills. Finally, the study underscores the imperative for a proactive and collaborative approach to IT education and workforce development. By integrating advanced learning technologies and inclusive strategies, stakeholders can ensure the IT workforce remains agile and prepared to contribute innovatively in the face of technological advancements. This framework sets the foundation for future research and policy-making, aiming to enhance the resilience and diversity of the IT sector globally.

Leveraging the Synergy of IPv6, Generative AI, and Web Engineering to Create a Big Data-driven Education Platform

The rapid advancement of network technology in China has significantly accelerated the implementation of information technology in higher education. Through the utilization of computer technology, multimedia technology, big data technology, artificial intelligence technology, and network communication technology, the integration of these technologies in university teaching has become widespread. This paper presents an analysis and discussion on the utilization of the latest IPv6 network transmission protocol technology to enhance the application of data collection in university education, with a specific focus on gathering information related to university faculties. By leveraging web engineering and multimedia technology as fundamental components, the network facilitates the sharing of educational resources among students, thereby enabling the reform of management approaches, fostering educational progress in China, and establishing a comprehensive big data-driven education platform specifically tailored to colleges and universities. Additionally, the incorporation of big data visualization and analysis tools allows for easy retrieval of existing university educational information, facilitates the creation of data charts, and expedites the utilization of data for its inherent value. Finally, the proposed approach employs generative AI to collect and analyze feedback from students and educators, followed by the application of web engineering techniques to continuously enhance the online education platform based on this feedback.

After Mainframes: Computer Education and Microcomputers in Western Switzerland during the 1980s and 1990s

ABSTRACT This article analyses the developments in computer education in French-speaking Western Switzerland in the 1980s and 1990s. It investigates how computer education changed with the arrival of microcomputers, who the agents of these changes were, and with what sociopolitical and economic developments these pedagogical changes interacted. By analysing archival material from five cantonal departments of education and from Raymond Morel (at the time, Western Switzerland’s most influential educational IT expert), it is argued that computer education in Western Switzerland’s general education experienced three shifts. First, education with computers displaced education about computers in the first half of the 1980s. Second, from the mid-1980s onwards, office applications became central. Third, computer education morphed into telecommunications education around 1990. The paper contributes to the historiography of local school computers and computer education. It adds comment on the “glocal” histories of computers, which shed light on local computer cultures and economies across the globe.

Technology-based learning effect on the learning outcomes of Indonesian students: a meta-analysis

The utilization of information technology in education offers learners access to a variety of learning resources that are not restricted. It is expected that this use will enhance the success of the learning process and the attainment of educational goals. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of information technology-based learning on the academic performance of students in Indonesia. This research adopts a meta-analysis design and utilizes a selection process based on established criteria to gather studies from the Google Scholar and Scopus databases. The study adheres to the PRISMA protocol. There were 51 studies included, comprising 44 academic journals and seven proceedings. The analysis technique applied is a meta-analysis using the random effect size model. The results of this study indicate that the utilization of information technology in education has a significant impact on the learning achievement of Indonesian students. The analysis of 51 studies, including 44 scientific journals and seven proceedings, showed that the effect sizes of the studies varied from -0.80 to 5.85, indicating heterogeneity in the studies analyzed. The effect size model used in this meta-analysis was a random effect size model, with the summary effect value showing a large effect size with a value of 1.285, a p-value<0.001, and a confidence interval ranging from 1.012 to 1.559. Subgroup analysis also revealed a significant difference in the average effect size across different levels of education, including elementary, secondary, and tertiary education. The results of the study showed no evidence of publication bias.

The incidence of information and communication technologies in early childhood classrooms: A systemic literature review

The importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in education has been increasingly acknowledged due to advancements in technology. Prior research has explored several perspectives on the “use of ICT in early childhood education (ECE) and has highlighted many obstacles to its implementation in the classroom setting”. The synthesis of these research does not lean towards a singular perspective or definitive result, so allowing for further investigation of the issue at a more profound level. This systematic literature review seeks to enhance the current body of knowledge on teachers’ attitudes toward the efficacy of using ICT in ECE classrooms. By using PRISMA procedures, a total of 12 studies were selected to investigate the perspectives of teachers about the use of ICT, the current methods employed, and the efficacy of teaching at ECE level. The study’s findings indicate that, in general, teachers exhibit a significant propensity toward the use of ICT in ECE. However, the implementation of ICT in classrooms is constrained by several factors.

Factors propelling mathematics learning: insights from a quantitative empirical study

Mathematics learning (ML) is a fundamental aspect of education that lays the groundwork for various academic disciplines and practical applications. Understanding the factors that propel ML is crucial for optimizing educational outcomes. This quantitative empirical study investigates the impact of logical reasoning (LR), critical thinking (CT), information technology (IT), and distance learning (DL) on ML. The study employs structural equation modeling (SEM) using SmartPLS 4 for data analysis and hypothesis testing. The findings reveal that LR, CT, IT, and DL positively influence ML. The results highlight the importance of fostering LR, CT, and the integration of IT in mathematics education. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the factors that promote effective ML. These findings have implications for educators, policymakers, and curriculum developers, aiding in the design of instructional strategies and the integration of technology to enhance ML outcomes.

 The integration of information and communication technology in education is driving the acceleration of computer literacy in Indonesian society. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive study method. The focus of this research relates to the application of technology in PAI learning at Alfa Centauri Elementary School, Bandung. To obtain the data used is by interview, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validity of the data is obtained through data triangulation technical tests. The results of research on technological advances have led to many changes, including in the field of education which gave birth to the concept of e-learning. With e-learning, learning becomes more effective and efficient. The integration of information and communication technology in primary school education improves the quality of education in these institutions.
